Welcome! I’m David Joy, an artist blacksmith creating hand-forged decorative metalwork and teaching beginner blacksmithing courses in the UK. I specialise in nature-inspired metal design, using traditional blacksmithing techniques to forge fine-detailed pieces in mild steel for both indoor and outdoor spaces.

My work includes wall art, garden sculptures, architectural details, brackets, hooks, candle holders and bespoke metal features, all designed and made at the forge. Each piece is individually forged at the anvil, with a strong emphasis on organic forms, leaves, branches and natural textures. I focus on commission-based decorative metalwork and do not offer general metal repairs or welding fixes.

As well as one-off commissions, I also design and make a range of ready-made, hand-forged pieces which are available to buy. These include hooks, brackets, candle holders, small sculptures and nature-inspired metalwork that can be purchased as they are, without the lead time of a bespoke commission. New pre-made forged pieces are added regularly as I develop fresh designs at the anvil.

Alongside my own practice, I run Introduction to Blacksmithing experience days and beginner blacksmithing workshops (half-day to two-day courses). These hands-on sessions are ideal for complete beginners who want to learn traditional forge skills, work with hot steel and make their own hand-forged items such as bottle openers, hooks, fire pokers, candle holders or simple decorative pieces to take home.

Whether you’re looking for a unique piece of forged metalwork, a ready-made hand-forged item for your home or garden, or a blacksmithing experience day to try the craft for yourself, my forge offers a place to explore creative, handcrafted metal design.
